So the PBA launched Pro-Experience (Sports shot sanctioned) which gives the amateur bowler the opportunity to bowl on the different pro lane conditions. I decided to join a Pro-Experience summer league and am really learning more about the game itself and my opportunities for improvements. The lane conditions can be found on bowl.com. FYI - I am a right handed bowler and my arsonal includes the AMF Changeling, Morich Shock and Awe, Morich Total Anniliation, and the Full Tilt. The balls in bold are what I keep in my bag.
The first three weeks was the Cheetah shot. Supposedly this is the easiest shot of the different pro shots. I can't verify that yet since I haven't bowled on all the shots, so I'll come back to that point. Since I had the shots three weeks in a row I would think I would be able to bowl better on the shot as the weeks past. Well, I bowled OK the first week, better the second week (had a 225 game. Normally I wouldn't rave about that but I was happy), and the third week was the worst week. I bowl on Tuesday night and the Monday before I bowled the third week, I practiced on the shot. First game I bowled (on a fresh pair) was 220+, next couple of games 200+ and 190+ so I thought I was all set for Tuesday night. So what happened? I believe I was over thinking my shots and trying to recreate what I did in practice (meaning hit the same line), but it wasn't working. I was leaving splits left and right. I just need to play what the lane gives me to play and be confident in my shot. With the Cheetah, at times I need to get my ball all the way out to the one board where part of my ball isn't even on the lane! I just need to be confident that my ball will come back, cause it does. But when I don't follow through and stay down, I'll leave a split. Not just a baby split, a real ugly split. I did learn how to pick up my corner pin spares by not going cross lane. After the Cheetah my average was in the mid 170's. Can't complain about that because its 20 pins lower than my book average, but I want to end up at least 185 and always bowl more than 500!

I enjoyed reading your blog entry. I bowled in a PBA Experience league earlier this year (it ended in March). Anyway, I just wanted to let you know, there is a group for discussing the PBA Experience leagues (in case you are interested). I really enjoyed the PBA Experience league, and can't wait till the next one starts. I get a lot of revs on my ball, and for the most part, I rolled a tighter line, used weaker equipment and I played around the first arrow (except for the Cheetah and the Shark patterns). On the Cheetah, a was going over the first arrow out to about the 2 board, and I was bowling with a ball that hooked a little more (and got a little further down the lane). The Cheetah pattern ended up being my best pattern.
